Research organization

Research Departments

RIFOR organizes research membership into four departments. Each provides a subject area for members' research identities and affiliations, including work that crosses disciplinary boundaries.

Our departments

Department of Physics

Theoretical, experimental, and computational physics, including interdisciplinary work grounded in physical science.

Department of Computer Science

Algorithms, artificial intelligence, software, data, and computing systems, with a focus on computational methods and technologies.

Department of Education

Teaching and learning, educational technology, teacher education, higher education, and education policy.

Department of Social Sciences

Psychology, sociology, economics, political science, and public policy, including research on people, institutions, and society.

Department assignment

When an application is approved, RIFOR assigns a primary department based on the applicant's research focus and includes it in the membership invitation. Interdisciplinary work is assigned by its main research question: for example, AI-supported teaching may fit Education, while AI algorithm development may fit Computer Science. Members may request a review of their assignment as their research develops.

Departments are internal research groupings. Department membership does not confer employment, an academic appointment, a degree, or endorsement of research findings.

Using your affiliation

Active members may use their assigned department with RIFOR's full name, subject to the membership agreement and the publication's requirements. For example:

Department of Education, Resonance Institute for Open Research (RIFOR)

Use the department stated in your membership confirmation. A department assignment takes effect when membership is activated.
